Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. My name is Adam Flanick and I am blessed to have the opportunity to serve as the vicar here at Messiah this upcoming year. I am excited about being a part of your ministry team and getting to know all of you in the coming months. Before I arrive, however, I would like to share with you a little about myself and my family.
I was born and raised in Maryland along with my five brothers. As you can imagine, growing up in a house full of boys was quite the adventure. After graduating high school, I attended college and worked as a waiter to finance my education. In the fall of 2016, I graduated from Towson University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
After graduating and becoming a registered nurse, I began to work in healthcare, first in the emergency department at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, then at an inpatient psychiatric hospital. In both settings, I witnessed firsthand the brokenness, pain, and suffering in our sinful world. These experiences helped me realize our world’s need for the Gospel message. In addition, they confirmed my desire to enter full-time ministry. During that time, I met my future wife, Meghan, who was interning as a DCE at my parents’ home church, Faith Lutheran Church in Eldersburg, MD. Meghan is originally from Cleveland, Ohio, and comes from a family of Lutheran educators. She attended Concordia Chicago where she double majored in Elementary Education and Christian Education (DCE).
On Nov. 13th, 2017, I was accepted into Concordia Seminary’s MDiv program. Later that same month, I asked Meghan to marry me and she said, “Yes!” We were married July 7th, 2018, and after a quick honeymoon, we headed off to St. Louis. The weekend before I started classes, however, we learned that an unexpected blessing would arrive in the spring. Judah James Flanick entered our lives on April 25th, 2019 and has been an incredible joy ever since.
In our free time, we enjoy hiking, camping, canoeing, and pretty much anything outdoors. In addition, we love to cook and enjoy experimenting with recipes and trying new foods. We also enjoy entertaining at our home and playing euchre (or any card game for that matter). I enjoy playing soccer, Meghan enjoys playing volleyball and softball, and Judah enjoys crawling around and attempting to ingest anything that has not been nailed to the floor. At the time of this writing, Judah is beginning to take steps on his own and will likely be walking in a few more weeks.
We look forward to sharing more of our story and are excited to hear yours. It is our prayer that we are a blessing to each of you at Messiah in Clio and that God uses our gifts and talents for His purposes in our year of ministry there. You are in our prayers and we look forward to meeting all of you soon.
